Una alhóndiga (o almudí, almudín, alholí o casa pública o mercado de los vecinos) era un establecimiento en donde se vendía, compraba e incluso se almacenaba grano, cuyo fin era socorrer a los vecinos y principalmente a los labradores en épocas de escasez.
Eran establecimientos gestionados por los ayuntamientos y se componía de grandes espacios o lonjas en donde se colocaba toda clase de grano.
Estaba abierto durante el día y acudían a adquirir cereales para sus necesidades.
Debido a la caída del cultivo de cereales a finales del siglo XVIII-XIX originó que La Alhóndiga cayera en desuso como pósito y pasará a albergar diferentes dependencias.

A alhóndiga (or almudí, almudín, alholí or public house or neighborhood market) was an establishment where grain was sold, bought and even stored, whose purpose was to help neighbors and mainly farmers in times of scarcity.
They were establishments managed by the municipalities and consisted of large spaces or auctions where all kinds of grain was placed.
It was open during the day and they came to buy cereals for their needs.
Due to the fall of cereal cultivation at the end of the XVIII-XIX century, La Alhóndiga fell into disuse as a portal and will become home to different dependencies.
