Description of the path

The drop of the path

We are in the National Park of Las Cañadas del Teide. In this occasion we realize the path number 17 Igueque. The path begins in the Km 24 of the TF 24, road that goes from Izaña to La Laguna, passing of El Monte de la Esperanza.

To come to the zone, we can go by car (there are places of lay-bys and the viewing-points where it is possible to park the vehicle) or by the public transport (looks which the line is).

Path

To begin the tour, it was decided to start from the entry to Izaña's observatory. A few meters there is a poster that indicates path, this path is Corral del Niño. If we drive towards  La Laguna, the path is on the left hand; if one comes towards El Teide,  the path is on the right hand. Rightly in the point of the sign it is possible to leave the car

We initiate the tour and to few meters we have a sign that indicates us if we take for Corral del Niño or for Igueque.

In this section we go nearby at all time of Izaña's road. After 15 minutes walking (more or less) we have come to the road just where to other side begins that of Igueque.

We cross the road and begin the path. This first part is with a bit of slope, but that is taking level little by little. From here we spy the valley of La Orotava, El Teide and La Palma, (if  we have good weather conditions) To another side, we have the island of  Gran Canaria,  Güimar's valley, and Anaga.

Flora

After approximately 20 minutes of the tour from the sign, we come to the highest from the path, to start descending towards the mount. This second section has something of complication due to the fact that the soil is slippery and has great slope, for what it is necessary to carry  the precautions. At all time one sees Izaña's road..

After stopping descending we are inside mount and finish the path in the high of Pedro Gil, with the forest track that is taken to having been walking to Candelaria from northern Tenerife.

Here it would end the path since it is a linear  one. In our case we moved back up to the car, so we did the path in the opposite direction. The part going down it is slippery, rising is not so complicated.

For the zone there are honeycombs of bees, especially in spring. It is a zone of high mountain, for what the solar beam affect more, so to be protecting.
