El nombre de #LaPalma lo debieron de dar los navegantes mallorquines antes de la conquista, ya que este (nombre) estaba preexistente en los textos de Le Canarien.
Sin embargo, como observaron los cronistas durante la conquista de Le Canarien, no son las palmeras (Phoenix canariensis) el árbol más representativo de su flora; ni es esta la isla de #lasCanarias que más palmeras tiene (en contra de lo que pudiera hacer pensar su nombre, razón por la que se ha puesto en duda la aparente claridad de su etimología botánica).
Tres han sido las hipótesis que se han barajado para explicar el topónimo:
-La primera es totalmente legendaria, y dice que unos españoles en tiempos del rey Abis o Abides, huyendo de una sequía espantosa y prolongada, encontraron la isla de La Palma refugio.
- La segunda, que el nombre de La Palma lo recibió de los navegantes mallorquines del siglo XIV, en reconocimiento a la capital de la isla de la que procedían.
- La tercera hipótesis es que su nombre procede de la isla Planaria del relato que Plinio el Viejo hizo de las islas de #Canaria en el siglo I d.C.

The name of La Palma must have been given by Mallorcan sailors before the conquest, since it was pre-existing in the texts of Le Canarien.
However, as the chroniclers observed during the conquest of Le Canarien, it is not the palms (Phoenix canariensis) that are the most representative of its flora; nor is this the island of #theCanaries that has the most palms (contrary to what his name might suggest, which is why the apparent clarity of his botanical etymology has been questioned)
Three hypotheses have been considered to explain the toponym:
-The first is totally legendary, and says that some Spaniards in the time of King Abis or Abides, fleeing from a frightful and prolonged drought, found the island of La Palma refuge.
- The second, that the name of La Palma received it from the Mallorcan sailors of the fourteenth century, in recognition of the capital of the island from which they came.
- The third hypothesis is that its name comes from the island of Planaria from the story that Pliny the Elder made of the islands of Canaria in the 1st century
