En 1925 se crea el primer Programa del #Carnaval de #Tenerife, de la mano del Ayuntamiento de #SantaCruz.

Desde ese momento, será el encargado de organizar el evento y comienzan a formarse murgas, comparsas, rondallas y diferentes agrupaciones.

Durante la dictadura estuvieron prohibidos (se celebraban de manera privada), pero partir de 1961 se acepta la celebración de manera oficial bajo el nombre de Fiestas de Invierno.

En 1967 recibe la distinción de Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional.

Con la llegada de la democracia recuperan su nombre de Carnaval y ya en 1980 se eleva este reconocimiento a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Internacional.

In 1925, the first #Tenerife #Carnival Program was created by the City Council of #SantaCruz.

From that moment, the City Council will be in charge of organizing the event and begin to form murgas, comparsas, rondallas and different groups.

During the dictatorship they were prohibited (they were celebrated rather privately), but from 1961 the official celebration is accepted under the name of Winter Festivities.

In 1967 it received the distinction of National Tourist Interest Festival.

With the arrival of democracy, it was recovered the name of Carnival and already in 1980 this recognition rose to Festival of International Tourist Interest.

Parque Nacional de Timanfaya

Fue declarado Parque Nacional el 9 de agosto de 1974.

Ocupa una extensión de 51,07 km² del suroeste de #Lanzarote. Es un parque de origen volcánico y cuanta con más de 25 volcanes.

Se trata del único parque nacional de la red española de carácter eminentemente geológico, y fue el resultado de las erupciones volcánicas sucedidas entre 1720 y 1736, y siendo la última de ellas en 1824.

Predominan las tonalidades negras y rojizas de lapillis; y las oscuras de las lavas basálticas, todo ello salpicado de manchas de diferentes colores pertenecientes a las numerosas especies de líquenes.

Encontramos tanto lavas del tipo “AA” (malpaíses) y “Pahoe-hoe” (cordadas).

¿Por qué se llama Timanfaya?

Da nombre a todo el parque, pero antes era el nombre de un poblado que fue destruido por las lavas, dando nombre así a los volcanes que lo sepultaron.

La presencia del diablo en las leyendas de la isla siempre tienen su paralelismo con el vulcanismo de la misma, de ahí la imagen del diablo.

En cuanto al nombre, #Timanfaya es de origen #canario. Puede que venga del hermano y sucesor de Zonzsamas, llamado Tiguafaya o Timanfaya, quien finalmente fue preso por los expedicionarios europeos de 1393.

Timanfaya National Park

It was declared a National Park on August 9, 1974.

It occupies an area of 51.07 km² of the southwest of #Lanzarote. It is a park of volcanic origin and has more than 25 volcanoes

It is the only national park of Spain of the eminent geological character, and it was the result of volcanic eruptions between 1720 and 1736, and being the last of them in 1824.

The black and reddish tones of lapillis are the predominat; and the dark of basaltic lavas, all dotted with stains of different colors belonging to the numerous likenesses species.

We found both lavas of type "AA" (malpaíses "badland") and "Pahoe-hoe".

Why is the name Timanfaya?

It gives its name to the entire park, but before it was the name of a village that was destroyed by the lavas, giving its name to the volcanoes that buried it.

The presence of the devil in the legends of the island always have its parallelism with the volcanism of the same one, hence the image of the devil.

As for the name, Timanfaya is of #Canarian origin. It may come from the brother and successor of Zonzsamas, called Tiguafaya or Timanfaya, who was eventually imprisoned by European expeditionary in 1393.
