This time we have moved to the municipality of #LosSilos, #Tenerife to talk about lime oven.
They are two kilns destined in past times to the manufacture of lime for agricultural use and as a construction material and that could have worked until the 70s, time in which the use of cement was generalized.
Remember that the old #canarian houses were made of/ or were made with: stones, mud, lime and wood
The oldest one dates from the 19th century (according to oral sources), the other one for the 1931.
Its construction is simple, composed of stone and brick for the most part. It has their respective mouths at the top where the smoke from the bonfires that came from the firing of limestone came out.
Next to them stands the remains of the factory warehouse as well as a small rectangular water pond, essential for the production of the final product.
The raw material was transported in sailing or steam boats from Gran Tarajal, #Fuerteventura, was unloaded in boats by the dock of La Burrera or by the one of Daute, even many times by the dock of Garachico.

They were establishments managed by the municipalities and consisted of large spaces or auctions where all kinds of grain was placed.
It was open during the day and they came to buy cereals for their needs.
Due to the fall of cereal cultivation at the end of the XVIII-XIX century, La Alhóndiga fell into disuse as a portal and will become home to different dependencies.

Tourism in the #CanaryIslands is born when many patients belonging to wealthy family members travel to the islands, which were "sold" by national doctors and internationals for having a mild climate all year round, clean air, which was ideal for treating respiratory and skin diseases.

Among these diseases were tuberculosis, pneumonia and bronchitis. For this reason, several sanatoriums are built on the island to accommodate these visitors.

One of them was built in Las Cañadas, where today there is some private property known as El Sanatorio. There is not this original building, but some huts built between the 30s and 40s of the last century in the same place.

In any case, the idea of housing patients in these areas due to the sudden drop in temperatures at night is rejected in part and the #Puertodelacruz is chosen as the ideal place for this, but we will talk later.

With medical advances to cure these diseases, and the fact that Las Cañadas has been declared a National Park, many unsustainable actions in the area have been halted.

Also, it is said that the buildings we see are the house of the doctor and services, being paralyzed the work without being built the rooms of the sick.

Hierba Pajonera

 Hierba Pajonera

During the spring it is filled with small yellow flowers and when dried it looks like straw (hence the name).
It has been adapted to the high mountain climate of this area of Tenerife, creating its own microclimate inside that helps to soften the harsh conditions of humidity and temperature.

Today we are going to talk about one of the phenomena, with many others, that occur on our islands. In this case in concentration we will talk about the hat of the Teide, lenticular altocumulus is its technical slang.

Every time someone on the island sees such a phenomenon, it is known that the time will change, that it will rain (or so it was fulfilled, because the time is already so crazy that one doesn´t know).

The formation of that cloud at the peak of Mount Teide reveals the presence of moisture and wind at those levels, and that may be an indication that unstable weather is approaching.

Depending on the shape of the hat and its persistence, the front will be more or less active and will bring more rain or more wind.

Some sayings are (well, more or less the sayings are): "When the Teide wears a hat, rains and showers come"; "When the Teide wears a hat, there will be rain and showers"; "When the Teide wears a hat, there will be a downpour"; "When the Teide touches, pick up the clothes"; "When the Teide has touched, goatherd, save your clothes".
