Area Information

This path that we are realizing is getting down El Teide, walking through PicoViejo. El Teide was declared as Natural Heritage of the Humanity in 2007.

Pico Viejo is a crater of approximately 800 meters of diameter and it is in approximately 3.100 meters of altitude. (To remember that it is prohibited to get inside the Crater). Pico Viejo shares the same volcanic building that El Teide.

The vegetation that we find is the characteristic of the area, as Brooms (Spartocytisus supranubius), Hierba Pajorera (Descurainia bourgaeana) and Rosalillos de Cumbre (Pterocephalus lasiospermus).

The drop of the path

We are going to realize more than one path in Las Cañadas del Teide, extactly 2.

To come to the National Park, we can take the public transport: taxi or Bus (lines 348 and 342) and the car (parking in the qualified parkings).

We start by rising in the Teleférico del Teide (cable car). Once we come up, take the path to access to the peak (to remember that to rise it is necessary to have a permit, the rise during the day is restricted and the continuance of visitors in the area is 2 hours).

Path

On having come above, one enjoys of impressive views of Tenerife (north, south, eats and west) and of other islands. It is possible to see Gran Canria, La Gomera and La Palma. It is more difficult to see the other ones, El Hierro, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. 

We begin to go down, and on having come to the shed of the teleférico, take to the right side (the left side, we go to the viewing-point of La Fortaleza, number 11). We take  the number 12 Viewing-point of Pico Viejo.

Pico Viejo

After coming to the viewing-point of Pico Viejo, we continue the path number 9 Teide- Pico Viejo. The path has indications all the time (signs and also we see the path drawn in the own  soil). We carry to extremes the precautions since a fall in the zone is the easiest thing.

We are walking for zones of washes, treading on volcanic bombs and also zones where the soil is more unstable, there being many gravel. On having come already to the crater of  Pico Viejo, we will have walked for 1 hour and 30 minutes (this duration is relative according to the people, in our case we were slow, observed the landscape, making photos and making  stopping)

Path

We come to Pico Viejo, and at the bifurcation with the path 23 Regatones Negros. After seeing the crater, we return again to walk to the bifurcation, and take the path number 23. This path has a duration going down for 3 hours, whereas rising it is 4 hours.

When we start to descend, to our back  is Pico Viejo, and there are some places from where it is imposible to see El Teide. Always having in front of us, Las Cañadas with the highest point Guajara.

We cross zones of washes, and the last point coming to Los Roques de García, we tread on the lava  called Pahoe hoe.

We come to the crossing with Los Roques, and continue the  path towards the parking, directly to El dedo de Dios (image of the bill of 1000ptas). We go for the pokings, up to Las Cañadas, and here to the right hand, we find the path 19 of Majúa. At the end of this last one, we find the car. To know more on the path Majúa, read:

This path was realized as a circulate one, returning to the starting point. Other option, is to leave one car in the parking of Los Roques ( we left it close to El Teleferico).

This path was realized in October, there is neither shade nor covered zone, from what many protections is advised and liquidate in case of realizing it in Summer.

Información sobre la zona

Este sendero lo realizamos descendiendo el Teide por Pico Viejo. El Teide fue declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad en el año 2007.

Pico Viejo es un cráter de unos 800 metros de diámetro y se encuentra a unos 3.100 metros de altitud.(Recordar que meterse dentro del Cráter esta prohibido). Pico Viejo comparte el mismo edificio volcánico que el Teide.

La vegetación que encontramos es la característica de parque, como Retamas (Spartocytisus supranubius), Hierba Pajonera (Descurainia bourgaeana) y Rosalillos de Cumbre (Pterocephalus lasiospermus).

En esta ocasión y como el nombre indica, vamos a realizar más de un sendero y en Las Cañadas del Teide.

Vistas desde el Pico

Para llegar al Parque Nacional, contamos con el transporte público: taxi o Guagua (líneas 348 y 342) y el coche (aparcando en los aparcamientos habilitados).

Comenzamos subiendo en el Teleférico del Teide. Una vez llegamos arriba, cogemos el sendero de ascensión al pico (recordar que para subir hay que tener un permiso, la subida durante el día es de forma restringida y la duración en la zona es de 2 horas).

La Gomera

Al llegar arriba, disfruta uno de las impresionantes vistas de Tenerife (norte, sur, este y oeste) y de las otras islas. Si el día acompaña podemos ver Gran  Canaria, La Gomera y La Palma. En cuanto a las otras islas de El Hierro, Lanzarote y Fuerteventura es más difícil verlas, para ello debe de ser un día claro, sin nada de nubes ni calima.

Comenzamos a bajar de la zona del pico, y al llegar a la caseta del teleférico, cogemos al lado derecho (el lado izquierdo vamos al mirador de la fortaleza, número 11). Nosotros cogemos el número 12, Mirador de Pico Viejo.

Hacia Pico Viejo

Al llegar al mirador de Pico Viejo, continuamos el sendero número 9 Teide-Pico Viejo. El sendero esta señalizado y también vemos el sendero dibujado en el propio suelo. Este sendero lo realizamos descendiendo, por lo que extremamos las precauciones ya que una caída en la zona es de lo más fácil.

Pasamos por zonas de coladas, pisando bombas volcánicas y también zonas donde el suelo es más inestable habiendo mucha gravilla. Al llegar ya al cráter de Pico Viejo, habremos caminado durante 1 hora y 30 minutos (esta duración es relativa según la gente, en nuestro caso fuimos despacio, observado el paisaje, sacando fotos y haciendo algunas paradas).

Sendero hacia Pico Viejo y Lavas

Llegamos a Pico Viejo, y en la bifurcación con el sendero 23 Regatones Negros, vemos que hay un camino que conduce a lo alto de una de las paredes del Cráter. En nuestro caso, caminamos unos metros del sendero 9 y a la derecha hay un camino en el suelo donde llegamos a ver el Cráter (no entrar). 

Volvemos a caminar a la bifurcación, y cogemos el sendero número 23 Regatones Negros. Este sendero tiene una duración bajando de 3 horas, mientras que subiendo es de 4 horas.

Paisaje

El sendero está señalizado y también lo encontramos dibujado en el suelo. Como ocurriera del Teide a Pico Viejo, pisamos por todo tipo de suelo. Por bombas, suelo donde hay muchas gravillas y es fácil resbalarse, pero a diferencia del otro, en este tramo hay zonas que podemos ir rectos, donde es fácil descansar (en el primero es continuo descenso, no hay zonas llanas).

Vamos dejando a nuestra espalda Pico Viejo, y zonas donde no vemos el Teide. Siempre teniendo delante de nosotros, las Cañadas con su punto más alto Guajara.

Paisaje

Atravesamos zonas de coladas, y el último punto llegando a Los Roques de García, pisamos sobre lavas Pahoe hoe.

Llegamos al cruce con los Roques, y seguimos sendero hacia el aparcamiento, direccion al el dedo de Dios (imagen del billete de 1000ptas). Vamos por los aparcamientos, hasta el Parador, y aquí a mano derecha encontramos el sendero 19 de Majúa, hasta llegar al coche, que se dejó en la zona de aparcamientos del Teleférico. Este sendero lo hemos hecho circular, para llegar al mismo punto de partida. Para no recorrer por Majúa, otro sendero que llegue al Teleférico o por el asfalto, siempre es recomendable dejar un coche en Los Roques y luego se recoge el otro. Este sendero se realizó en Octubre, no hay sombra ni zona cubierta, por lo que se aconseje mucha protección y liquido en caso de realizarse en Verano.

Area information

This trail is part of the ancient path that went up to this part of the island, and that crosses a landscape covered mainly with recent volcanic materials, coming from the volcanic cones that are in the area.

The area is covered with spikes and is also crossed by lava slags in which the wear of these is seen (because of the intense use of the road, when it was used by pastors and merchants)

We are on trail number 32 of LasCañadas del Teide National Park. This trail begins at the same point as the 13th of Samara. It is not a circular path, so it was decided to return to the same starting point.

To reach the area, we can take different means of transport like Guagua, which from Puerto de la Cruz is line 348. From Costa Adeje, line 342. We can also go by car, having a parking area on the lookout.  There around here are not many buses.

This trail is located on the TF-38 ( Boca Tauce-Chío). And as it has been put before, from there comes another path. We decided to start from here, because there is also the option to start at the lookout spot of Pico Viejo, where the number 9 trail begins.

It is always signposted, both by the trail signs, and by the ground itself where the path is drawn. We walk both between pine zones, as well as castings, having to our left Pico Viejo and the Teide. To the right would be the southern region and the islands of La Gomera, La Palma, which on clear days, without Calima, should be seen.

The only complication can be at the beggining, where there are two crosses almost together, and we must catch the one that is in both cases on the right.

The inclination is low, and has no difficulty, except the sections where we walk through lava flows, careful not to twist our feet on the rocks. It is a path that there is no shadow, so be careful in the summer.

We finish the same one when we find the sign of Abeque, because it crosses with the trail 9 of Pico Viejo. In this case it was decided to turn around and return to the starting point, but you can go to the viewpoint, which is a few meters away from the sign.

Información sobre la zona

Este sendero es un tramo de uno de los antiguos caminos que subían a la cumbre de la Isla y que atraviesa un paisaje cubierto principalmente de materiales volcánicos recientes, procedentes de los conos volcánicos que se encuentran junto al mismo.

Gran parte del sendero discurre por terrenos cubiertos de picón y es atravesado también por lavas de escorias en las que se aprecia el desgaste de estas (por el intenso uso que tuvo el camino, cuando era utilizado por los pastores y los comerciantes)

Nos encontramos en el sendero número 32 del Parque Nacional de las Cañadas del teide. Este sendero se inicia en el mismo punto que el 13 de Samara. No es un sendero circular, así que se decidió volver al mismo punto de partida.

Para llegar a la zona podemos tomar diferentes medios como la Guagua, que desde el Puerto de la Cruz es la línea 348. Desde Costa Adeje, línea 342. También podemos ir en coche, teniendo zona de aparcamiento en el mirador.  Por esta zona no hay muchas guaguas.

Este sendero se encuentra en la TF-38 ( Boca Tauce-Chío). Y como antes se ha puesto, desde el mismo sale otro sendero. Nosotros lo decidimos empezar de aquí, porque también existe la opción de empezar en el mirador de Pico Viejo, donde comienza el sendero número 9.

Esta todo el rato señalizado, tanto por las señales de sendero, como por el propio suelo donde se dibuja el camino. Caminamos tanto entre zonas de pino, como coladas, teniendo a nuestra izquierda Pico Viejo y el Teide. A la derecha, estaría la comarca sur y las islas de La Gomera, La Palma, que en días despejados y sin calima deberían de verse.

Sendero

La única complicación puede ser al principio, donde hay dos cruces casi juntos, y debemos coger el que se encuentra en ambos casos a mano derecha.

La inclinación es poca, y no tiene dificultad, excepto los tramos donde caminamos por las coladas de lava, cuidado de no torcernos un pie por las rocas. Es un sendero que no hay sombra, así que tener cuidado en verano.

Sendero

Finalizamos el mismo al encontrar la señal de sendero que indica que empieza el de Abeque, ya que se cruza con el sendero 9 de Pico Viejo. En este caso se decidió dar la vuelta y regresar el punto de partida, pero se puede ir hasta el mirador, que se encuentra unos metros más alejados desde la señal.
